Soggy Saturday Sewing....

but the day was vibrant at the guild with teacher,
member Carmen instructing our Juniors and adults how to make a fun apron.
All the Juniors went home with a beautiful apron... and they were able to say they made them. Some have plans to make another one for their mom's birthday.
Here are the adults who made beautiful aprons in the workshop along with the Juniors.
This my cutie grand-daughter Ariane.. member of the guild. She too had a beautiful apron.

I decided to work on a project I have had in mind for a while. A fabric salesman gave our member Simone (who sells fabrics at our local shop) some beautiful panels. The design reminds me of total serenity. A tree with its branches and roots  spread out to embrace us and reassure us all is well.

There are 6 panels and I embroidered the Beatitudes on each one, sandwiched them with fusible fleece and a lining. They will be hanging in the church or maybe in our parish hall where the guild  meets. That has not been determined yet as they require a fairly large space.

I finished the free motion.
"Spring Wagon"  by Laundry Basket Quilts
This pattern was a gift from my sister Simone and now the wall hanging is on the wall in my hall.

I stippled the background all around the flowers. It  was a challenge but it looks so much better than just framing the flowers
.
The top and bottom I quilted
in a piano key design.

The sides I machine embroidered a  beautiful flower cluster but it does not show in a picture.

And this is my favourite part with my favourite quote

Translates
"I have carved you from the palm of my hand"
Isaiah 49

Well the rain has been loyal for the last week
It would be great to see the sun because the buds are bursting with energy to bloom.

and the Crab Apple will be gorgeous in full bloom.

Happy Memorial Day to American friends...

Sunday night finishes......

and the Relay for Life

I finished the second table runner from the
Laundry Basket Pattern  " Garden Trio".
It is one of those pieces I would call "cute".

I am working on t-shirts for my daughter 's friend's Relay team

A new survivor of Breast Cancer

This one is for you,... Kathleen
embroidered in gold ..
and since I have 11 t-shirts to embroider I decided to

start the free-motion quilting on this piece that has been sitting in my UFO basket.

Victoria Day holiday was a bit gloomy with the pouring rain
but it was a perfect day to have all the kids over for lunch and enjoy pictures from the past. When Gerald's mom passed away his sister, Lucille gathered all the pictures from her mom's album and made a beautiful album of memories. This album is being passed on to all the siblings to enjoy and educate their families about their heritage .. all 14 of them
(Gerald comes from a family of 15 children)

In the  picture Gerald reminisces with our children and grand-children  They were in awe at the beautiful memories their dad shared with them.

Some of the memories
From the time Gerald's mom was a little girl
Our children's handsome paternal grand father .. an OR Assistant in the army
 The bride and groom
The centre cutie is Gerald
The whole family... when the last child, the 15th was born...
10 Girls and 5 boys
Memories bring out sad stories too... Adrienne was 15 when she was killed along with her best friend  (1976) walking home with two other friends. They were hit by a car.
Our son was born the following year and has her name .. Adrien

Mrs Tufts was an extraordinary women who dedicated a lot of time and energy to keeping  the Acadian culture alive in our community.
This is the first book she wrote
"Acadienne de Clare". Features many women and their contributions to our Acadian communities.

Her next book dedicated to all her grand-children is a
coloring book about the Acadian culture.
In this photo on  the day it was launched are all the grand-kids.
Left to right... Adrien sitting,Yvelle and Liette standing and many cousins .

 Beautiful couple

This picture was taken about three hours before he passed away at his daughter's wedding in 1981 at the  age of 63 on Gerald's 36th birthday .

Edith continued her work in the schools where she would teach the kids about the Acadian culture and she was rewarded with many honors for doing this work.

First an honorary doctorate at University St Anne .... followed by
the  Order of Canada .

December 20/2010 after a wonderful evening to celebrate Christmas our beloved mother, grand-mother and mother-in-law passed away quietly at home.

This is the family today
5 boys and 9 girls
Needless to say the yearly family reunion is a big gathering with 35 grand-kids and 16 great grand-kids.
Each year it it a different family who sponsors it and this year it is our turn... plans are underway for July and events will take place at our house and  the kids houses throughout the week-end ♥

My purchases...

at the trunk show...

I just love the Robert Kaufman line ..
Mrs's P's ( Beth)'s post called  "seeing spots"  here
attracted me to the fabric from the get-go and I was happy she had brought this line to the Trunk Show.

What will I work on first?

I am really tempted to crack open
Moda.. Blackbird Layer cake but I have not decided
what to make with it yet .

This one is probably the first one on the to-do list . A Karen Neary Christmas Design..Santa's Trip Aorund the World .
Check out Karen's lovely post about her visit with us!  Here

I finished one of the
Garden Trio Table runners from Laundry Basket Quilts. All three runners are really fun to make and perfect for the newcomer to quilting and appliqué.

They came !!!!!

That's right...

And here is member Elaine welcoming Beth Munroe..

And the trunks were full!

Charm packs, Layer Cakes, Fat quarter Bundles, Fat quarters galore, Flabbies, Batting, Thread  and Yardage. What fun to have a shop at your finger tips.
The display was fantastic! Karen brought gorgeous eye candy and

we were able to select her patterns to make all of the projects she had on display♥

( Mrs Pugsley) Beth had made all these kits she called Doodle Kits for every member of the guild ... The fabric, the batting and even the thread wound on bobbins.. Oh! yes, we will have pictures for Mrs Pugsley of the these little beauties put together.

How do you say thank you to such wonderful people who drive from one end of the Province to the other to support the Guild.?
The members decided on a print made by a Local artist
Denise Comeau of ...
"Quilts on  a clothesline". Something that is not unusual in our community.

Beth says she will hang hers in Mrs Pugsley's Emporium

and Karen has the perfect place in her home..

What a beautiful day and to top it all we had visits from wonderful friends from near and far...our friends from Par-en- Bas and a blogger friend I had never met in person but am so glad to have been able to hug her ...
Oh! Kaaren I am so glad to have met you and hope we will get a chance to chat in person for a longer period. Thank you so much for coming!

Well we not only shopped but we sewed. The project today was a raw edge table topper and/or placemats.
Here are the samples of what the guild members worked on after shopping at the trunk show. These are not the usual flying geese but raw edge appliqué triangle.
Elise is busy choosing her colors
Everyone is working at cutting, gluing and sewing....
Our newest member Lorraine is busy putting her table topper together
Everyone arranges their colors to make gorgeous works of art... Can't wait to see them all finished..

Now I must go figure out what I am going to make with my new stash !
