The Big 60

The day started as usual with a wonderful service at mass, but what was intriguing were all these people coming to wish me happy birthday. How did they know?

Later in the aftrenoon ... the surprise.. Gerald and the kids had organized an open house and invited friends for.....

cake!

(I had been referring to the big number so much Gerald couldn't resist displaying it on my cake!)

The food...

The guests
The men always gather in the kitchen

60 came in with a bang and therefore is not all that bad after all!

The B I G number is soon approaching

"60", "Sixty", "Soixante" no matter how I write it's a big number! I must admit this week has been unbelievable as far as making the the switch to another digit number easier. On Sunday we went to my friends Eva and Louis' for dinner and as soon as we had cleared the table of the Entrée leftovers, she brought in this cake with the "60" candle. They are not going to be around this week-end (they are going Moose hunting in Cape Breton N.S.) so they wanted to celebrate the B I G event!
The cake...a carrot cake with Cream Cheese Icing... yum!

Then a gift for a quilter! Christmas fat quarters .. perfect for a table topper I want to make....
I love mail ! Monday I received this birthday card and a lovely prayer card from my cousine, Terrie.. Sister Terrie that is... She is a nun in New York...

Tuesday my subscription came in... great pattern ideas!
and my book order from Chapters....
Then Wednesday ... what a surprise... from my friend Kelly... oh! I love the pattern...
Kelly and I had coffee(Via e-mail) every morning this week.. connecting and sharing with friends makes everything OK ... even unwanted birthdays!Thursday an envelope from my sister, Simone....
These gorgeous coasters she made with Kansas Troubles...and better still she is going to show me how they are made when we get together for our "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" Workshop in October!
Now this package was exciting.... so I decide to wait and open it when we can connect on the phone. (Simone lives at the other end of the Province in Antigonish)
Oh! I love to chat with "Sis"

Wow! 14kt two tone earings! Sixty isn't so bad after all!
Counting my blessings is what I am going to focus on because there have been and still are many to count; now that is a B I G number! ♥♥♥

Another September project

Another project done from my September selection.....http://www.cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com/charmingchatter/

Pattern "In the Meadow" taken from the Better Homes and Gardens....Fall 2008 issue .

The quilting is hand quilted again by Agnes. I am so grateful to her for doing all my hand quilting. This is her passion and along with the CGQC she inspires me to sew !sew! sew! because as soon as one project is done she is ready for the next.

Today was a bag day

Choose a pattern.....???

I was inspired by grand-daughter Amy who loves brown and turquoise. The dress she wore at her Uncle's wedding ....
was what prompted me to choose fabric in those colorsfor my bag

Fancy, gold thread and stitching...

I changed the pattern because a smaller bag is preferred....

September Finished Projects

You remember I had submitted a table runner "Twist and Turn"as one of my September projects ?Well everything started out well. I had the fabric "Summer's North" by Holly Taylor for a while, and was very excited to use it on this particular pattern. My intentions were to make the long version of the runner so I could use it when my table is fully open. It so happened I cut a piece the wrong way. #1 All was not lost because I was still able to use some of the fabric and make the smallest version.
But my disappointment lingered because I did not have a long runner....The "Holly Taylor" fabric is no longer available but my stash did not let me down and "voilà" . I made another table runner in the longest version and a good fit for my table!
Now for the comparison! Long and Short version #2 Another submission for my September projects was my "Rolling Star" quilt.. made with Cause for the Cure "Heritage" by Howard Marcus.I had it hand quilted by my friend Agnes...

The last step to a finished quilt is the label!♥♥♥ All finished;

A visit by Grand-daughter "Amy" and "Jay" just home from the links make for perfect quilt holders!
And #3 this table topper. I loved the star and decided to make a small piece using my stash to see if I would like it as a big quilt. I think yes! Pattern called "Bali Sea Star" by Kim Brackett. She made it with Batiks . Two more projects to finish to complete my commitments for my September projects. Both are well advanced and even though there are only 1½ weeks left in this month I am optimistic they will be finished .

No time to be bored, depressed, worried or alone when you are a member of the...http://www.cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com/charmingchatter/ I am also enjoying working on my Mini Quilt Swap,(Sponsored by Kris at http://dandelionquilts.blogspot.com/) and it is also coming along very well!

Fun! Fun! Fun!

Charming Girls Club September Tag

http://cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com/charmingchatter/This little beauty is the "Quilt Along" the Charming Girls Club will be making together.. but it does not have a name and the designer and founder of the club, Kelly, has asked for its members help in finding the appropriate name.

Our friend Kelly has been experimenting, and I would say very successfully, with "French Cooking"., for that reason I think this quilt deserves a little french flare and I would like to call it." Kelly's Chic Coverlet" . I think this commemorates her new french adventure in the kitchen.

Next, I have to use the letters in my first name to list characteristics about myself.

Joan:

J........I would say this stands for "jugler". I am often told I have the ability to jugle many tasks at once .

I would say it also stands for "jovial" because I love a good laugh, and good times .

O... that definately stands for open minded. I am very receptive to new information and love the challenges of new ideas especially in quilting, of course♥♥♥

.....optomistic is another characterestic, I always try to dwell on the most hopeful aspects of a situation:

A.... Addicted to chocolate and maybe;...... a little........ to quilting...
.......active.. I am involved in many activities which would also characterize me as being
.......ambitious requiring full use of my abilities and resources
....... I am also anal.... I can be very compulsive or very picky about doing things a certain way

N...nice and natural...(hee hee) "What you see is what you get"....

So here is the September tag
