Another tag...

Kelly from Charming Chatter http://cottoncharmquilts.typepad.com/charmingchatter/ was tagged by Cheryl over at Polka Dots & Rick Rack and then in return tagged others who read her blog.... How fun is that!
So here's how this tag works: I have to post 10 things about myself that my readers don't know about me -- but, are true.

This is the award Cheryl gave Kelly.

10 things about me ! So here goes....

1. I was thought at a very young age to love everyone and I can say I do not have any hatred for anyone. (I may dislike the actions of some people) but there is one bunch of people who would fit very well on my dislike list... the researchers who came up with the fact that exercise is good for you....I h a t e exercising. These people are very smart because they even cast a spell of guilt when I don't exercise, so every morning before dawn you can find me on the road with my 9 year old "Husky" Eecho. My bottom lip drags so much it's funny I never tripped over it!

2. I must say I enjoy swimming but there are conditions... it has to be in water that is not more than 5 feet deep ... that cancels oceans, lakes and deep ends and very warm. When I am in the pool it feels more like being in a spa than exercising.

3. Since the children are on their own I have learnt to take time for myself... regular massages, facials and pedicures... Manicures are out because sewing does havoc on a new manicure.

4.When I was in elementary school I was thought by nuns and admired their "Habit" so I thought it would be my calling to enter the convent and become a nun.... unitl I met this guy.. 5. I changed my career on the spot and substituted the "Habit" for a nursing uniform

6. On July 20Th 19-- Neil Armstrong made history and quoted his famous phrase .. one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind ..well one month later August 23rd I made a giant leap as I walked small steps to the alter and married my 4 year boyfriend.... what year was that?
7.In 1984 I decided I needed a career change and I opened my own business.. A craft store.. Le Panier de Laine... (Translate into "Yarn Basket") It was a retail store for craft supplies specializing in yarns...and I would custom knit sweaters.

8. During this time Gerald became involved in Motorcycles as a Motorcycle safety instructor and of course I went for my license and owned my own motorcycle. I since traded it in for a 10 speed bicycle... oh gosh more exercise...even the gel seats are a pain!

9. I love all seasons... "winter" is probably top of my list of favourites... It has Christmas which I love...and then the storms which keeps me inside to sew.

The "fall" I love to travel because it is cooler and I love the fall foliage especially in places like the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton NS.

"Spring" is ok as things come back to life and I love to tend to the flower gardens, but we have a lot of rain and often a surprise snow fall (often in May) which here in NS they call it the farmer's fertilizer.

"Summer" I like everything about it when the weather co-operates but the bugs make me wish for winter!
August would be my favourite month and the busiest...It's our oldest daughter's wedding anniversary and youngest sister's birthday on August 2nd.-
our other daughter's wedding anniversary on the 5th
husbands' birthday on the 8th and now our son's wedding anniversary (wedding this year)-
Latest grand-daughter's birthday on the 20th...
Our anniversary and son-in-law's birthday on the 23rd
and our other son-in-law's birthday on the 26th
Now how is that for a month of August?....and in between there is the shopping for all the gifts! Whew...
What I enjoy most is celebrating all these events with the whole family together...

1o. I was born the year Newfoundland joined Canada-Confederation to become the 10th province. What year would that be?

I've been tagged

From the Charming Girls Club!

5 Things about myself!

1. My Favorite Fabric is:

I have so many Moda favourites but I must go with the Kansas Trouble. Everytime a new line comes in I just have to have it and I never have any difficulty choosing a pattern to use with it.

Here is one of the many Kansas Trouble Projects with the "Wildflower Seranade", pattern Fiddlesticks.

2. The pattern I'm most looking forward to sewing is:

Oh! my there are so many but this one is the next one on my list after I have all my UFO finished..

The fabric I have chosen to make this pattern is the "Collections For A Cause" Tradition by Howard Marcus. I especially am fond of this pattern because it uses the Pre-cut fabric.. Jelly Rolls and Charm packs which was one of my orders from Cotton Charm

3. The food that is my weakness:

There is no doubt I would eat anything with chocolate; in it; on it; or around it....I have been very conscious of the foods I eat in the past months...(of course, with the wedding coming up...)but not having any chocolate is a struggle... so I found some Toffuti Bars which are accepted on any d--t (oh the D word) and yes! they are chocolate.

4. If I knew I couldn't fail, I'd:

There are several things I have thought about but one that comes to mind would be to get a law degree... Uh Kelly?) I am often asked to testify on behalf of my clients and I find the courts fasinating. Criminal law would be my preference...
And then the other thing I'd enjoy and probably more doable would be a "Quilt Appraiser" .

5. The Best "Life" Advice I know is:

My favourite saying.... and I have no idea who I am quoting...

There is a reason for everything: I find this phrase fits for the many life events that happen and helps me sustain serenity...because when I quote this; I am also reminded to Let Go And Let God. As a health care provider sometimes it is my wish that I could fix everyone!

So those are five things about me which I will submit to the Charming Girls Club!

From Cotton Charms to Nova Scotia

Now this ends the week in a fine fashion... My order from Cotton Charms arrived this evening and as usual it was packaged with TLC...so now I can cross off these items off my Cotton Charm wish list..Thanks Kelly! Everything was in order! I just love the fabric! Five stars for the Kansas Winter*****

Then the grand-daughters came over for a swim with grand-mère and grand-père...
It doesn't get better than this!
Ariane 6 years old, Émilie 10 months, and Laurène will be 9 on Saturday! As for the big guy in back...well he is very young at heart.

Back In Business

My gloom and doom days are on the mend!

My Husqvarna Dearler and friend, Anne, gave me this "beauty" Sapphire 850, on loan while my machine is being tended to. ( uhm...I wonder if she is a blogger and read my comment about buying a second machine?
I am just kidding....Anne's friendship has no hidden agenda.
She just won an award for having sold the most Husquvarna in.... North America~

Now back to business and the Charming Girls Club!

Has anyone ever made just "o n e " bag? This pattern calls for more! I can just picture the big bag in the Fresh Squeezed by Sandy Gervais....(My 20 year old grand-daughter Amy's favourite)

Therefore that is my pick for my next project!

My finished Project

My finished project....
Oh! but I am grieving badly... My machine konked out on me this morning! There is a lesson to be learnt from this... own more than one machine! It is a new machine and I am praying I didn't get a lemon! I have been reading some reviews about the Husqvarna Platinum 750 and a lot of negative comments have been posted. I did have a Husqvarna before and it quilted a lot of years!
I know for certain I will not be bored even if I cannot sew because I am anxious to go visit the Charming Girls blog and see all the projects in progress. Wow! Kelly! You have brought a lot of people together.... You can feel the love of the art
of quilting being shared through your blog!
Thank you!
I hope to be connecting soon with my next project!
A la prochaine!
Hugs♥♥♥

My First quilt

In reading my favorite blogs I came across Camille and Carrie's blogs who had a great idea to post the first quilt you made and your msot recent project. How exciting is that!
So join in and blog your first and most recent quilt on their web site!

http://lavieenrosie.typepad.com/lavieenrosie/
http://camilleroskelley.typepad.com/simplify/

This is my first quilt I ever made. No borders and very large blocks. I don't even know the name of the pattern, it was given to me by a cousin on a plain piece of white paper. I never had any intentions of becoming a quilter. I loved many other hobbies especially sewing, but never quilts. So how did this all come about?

In 1994 we built a Granny apartment on our house for my 80 year old dad and mom. A couple of years after the move my father's health failed and mom would care for him in their little apartment, not venturing out too much for fear of leaving dad. I saw my mother who was always active, deteriorate, physically and emotionally at an almost greater rate than dad, because of her inactivity . Mom had always been a quilter and I asked her if I made the top of a quilt if she would quilt it (by hand)? Hoping it would give her some relief from the bordom she must have felt. My husband set up the frames in their living room of their apartment and from then on she would quilt while being able to keep an eye on dad and seeing to his needs. I have made many quilts since that first one and my mom quilted a lot. It is only in the last year that she does not do hand quilting. She will celebrate 90 years young (God willing) in January 2010 and is in very good health. My father passed away in 2001.

I owe it all to mom and dad for the wonderful experience of becoming a quilter!

.....and this is my recent quilt I made that is completely finished. Of course there are a few in my basket that need the last finishing touches.
