From August 1969 to August 2011

August 23 1969The scene of a beautiful wedding.. the day was perfect as it was 42 years later.

I love the blueberry season and one of the first dessert I made in my own kitchen for my new husband back in '69 was a

Blueberry Pudding.. a very old recipe from my Grandmother's cookbook

Brown Sugar sauce:

1 cup Brown Sugar packed

1/4 cup All-Purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

2 cups water

1 tsp.vanilla

Mix sugar, flour, and salt together well in med. sized saucepan.

Stir in water and vanilla. Heat stirring, until it boils and thickens.

Makes 2½ cups. Serve over Blueberry Pudding
Blueberry Pudding;

3/4 cups granulated sugar

2 tbsp butter 2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

1½ cups flour

1 tsp. baking powder

¼ tsp. salt

½ cup milk

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Put sugar and butter in mixing bowl. Add 1 egg at a time and beat well. Stir in vanilla.

Add flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk. Add blueberries that have been dusted with 1 tbsp. flour. Spread in greased 9x9 inch pan. Bake in 350ยบ oven for 30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Serve with Brown Sugar Sauce.

Yummy! The difference with this dessert in comparison to the one 42 years ago is that Gerald could enjoy it. The one I made "back when"... the sauce had burnt a bit and it had that strong burnt taste but Gerald did not say anything ... and ate it anyway! It was only when I tasted it I realized it was burnt! He said he did not want to hurt my feelings .....ahhhh! newly weds:)

Our niece, Gerald's brother's daughter and our Godchild.. Catherine is going away to a hockey school in Cornwall Onterio Canada. She is only 15 but she is an inspiring hockey player and this will be the determining factor as to which University she will be going to if she wants to pursue in hockey.

Remember this... my Jelly Roll Quilt? Well I gave it to Cath before she left... so she can enjoy the comfort of a warm quilt when she comes into her room after being on the ice ..

Wow! a week goes by so fast... I finished my blocks

I made my table runner Wrapping Presents

I finished the placemats #7 and 8

and .. the " This and That" Cinnamon Twist

This week is a busy week at work, meetings in the evenings and the Guild reconvenes.but I hope to do some Stippling on my friend's bed runner. Remember, Elaine, and her fear of free motion? I offered to do it for her...

Happy Sewing and hopefully Irene will not hit us tomorrow as predicted.

Thanks for the recipe. The quilt for your niece is wonderful and I'm sure she'll think of home when she sees it.

  5. Joan , you must have been a child bride :) Congrats on your anniversary. Seeing your blueberry pudding brought back many warm memories for me, as that was a favourite of my grandmother's; I think she served a brown sugar sauce over everything! I plan to try your recipe; thanks for sharing.
Your quilts are beautiful, as always. You seem to accomplish so much.
